What is skin tag removal?
Dr. Naomi Brooks and her P.A. Sammy Verner provide skin tag removal to patients who wish to remove skin tags from their body. Skin tags are benign skin growths that typically form under the arms, in the groin area, and at the sides of the neck. Skin tags are harmless and do not require removal, but if you would like to remove them for cosmetic reasons, we can help you.
How is skin tag removal performed?
Our skin tag removal methods include snipping them with surgical scissors or applying liquid nitrogen (cryosurgery). If you are prone to skin tags, they will continue to grow. These removal methods can only address current skin growths and will not prevent new growths.
What is cryosurgery?
Cryosurgery is the use of liquid nitrogen (extreme cold) to treat abnormal skin tissue. For skin tags, liquid nitrogen is applied directly to the growth with a cotton swab or spraying device (cryoprobe). A ball of ice crystals will form around the cryoprobe, freezing the nearby cells. After the procedure, the frozen tissue thaws and either dissolves or forms a temporary scab.
Does skin tag removal hurt?
If the skin tag is small, there will be relatively no pain. Removal, in this case, feels like a slight pinprick. For bigger skin tags, a topical anesthetic will prevent you from feeling any pain during removal.
Should I try to remove my own skin tags?
Removing skin tags on your own is not recommended, especially if the tag is relatively large. Skin tags have blood vessels, making the area prone to infection if you do not use medically sterile equipment. Additionally, removing skin tags can be quite painful without numbing the area with local topical anesthesia.
